Mineral Resources is supporting young females into the mining industry

We were delighted to build on our long-standing relationship with the Kwinana Industries Council (KIC) by sponsoring their iWOMEN Project, a programme that aims to inspire year 10 female students from collaborating KIC schools to seek a career in the resources industry.

This was our first year sponsoring the project. The project gives young female students fantastic exposure to the industry and helps to attract female talent into our successful apprenticeship programme.

We were responsible for opening the project and welcoming participants, as well as offering career advice and information on entry pathways into our business at their career pathway workshop. To assist the students in their development, our Learning and Development Advisor, worked with the students on their résumés and conducted mock interviews to help set them up for success once they leave school.

As part of our sponsorship, we hosted the students at our Kwinana Workshop and took them on a tour of the facilities so they could meet our current group of apprentices. The students gained a better understanding of what trades are available.

We received excellent feedback from the visit with a number of participants expressing interest in our apprenticeship programme pathway. Once they got back to school, they signed themselves up for a Certificate II in Engineering.

We will be in regular contact with the group to assist in arranging work experience or offer advice on our Apprenticeship programme.
